Pets Are the New Kids

Pets Are the New Kids

Since the pandemic, there have been many changes in the way we live. One of the biggest changes that struck me was the move to home and hybrid working. Before covid, I only knew a couple of people who worked from home regularly, and they were business owners with dedicated home offices. Where home working used to be a luxury, it has now become commonplace.

Pets and Travel

Another change is the increase in pet ownership. With being in lockdown we all know that many people rushed to buy a dog to accompany them on their hour of exercise. Yes, we have also seen the sad stories of many of these pandemic puppies now finding their way into rescue centres. But, it is important to note that there are still a LOT of them snuggled with the individuals and families that welcomed them into their homes.

Did you also know that, for the first time in 100 years, car ownership is on the decrease? 2020 saw a decrease of 14.9%, in 2021 a further 0.2% and this year it’s anticipated that car ownership will decrease once again.

Lifestyle and Pet Ownership

There was a very traditional view that pet ownership came when people had families or were lonely and needed a companion.

That is certainly changing!

We now see the lowest birth rate in the under-thirties since records began and Generation Z and Millennials now make up 59% of pet ownership, opting to have a pet over a baby as they start their career.

Pets are also being increasingly trained to help support our lifestyle and medical conditions. From service dogs and therapy dogs to highly trained rescue dogs. Our pets play a much bigger part in family life.

Pets are big business

Pets aren’t going anywhere and it’s easy to see why. From companionship and a reason to get out of the house, through to potentially being a lifeline for someone battling diabetes or epilepsy. Pets are awesome!

If the current trends continue, I can only see pet ownership continuing to rise. And this presents a great opportunity for animal lovers!

Now is a great time to be running a pet business. And not just any pet business, but a pet taxi.

A superbly unique idea with little to no competition right now, it’s a great time to join with low start-up cost, additional training and peer-to-peer support alongside an extensive support package from head office.
