We have applied for a grant from the Road Safety Trust. This is an organisation who does what it says on the tin (like us; we take pets to places). They campaign for safer roads in the UK.
Something we are big on as, you can imagine, we spend a lot of time on the road.
Not only that but, being leaders in pet transport, we are also campaigning for safer transport for pets.
Did you know several pedestrians have been killed in the last few years due to dogs distracting their owners whilst they’ve been driving?
Several other case studies we know about include an unrestrained dog which seriously injured an owner in an accident.
Dogs escaping from cars on the motorway
We’ve recently heard form a rescue centre near Oxford who has informed us they are getting dogs arriving daily who have escaped from cars on the motorway!!
Studies undertaken by the RAC and AA are also concluding a high percentage of pet owners are not restraining their dogs properly. Just how much of a problem is this? How much of a strain is this putting on the NHS, police and fire services?
This is why we applied for the grant. We are hoping to conduct a research project on pets being transported and how much of an issue this currently is.
In-depth research into pet transport safety
If we get the grant Pets 2 Places will be responsible for the first ever in-depth research into pet transport. We aim to create safer roads in the UK.
Not only that but, with the grant, we aim to change how pets are transported. With the introduction of new legislation and a new standard that pet transport equipment has to adhere to (a bit like electrical items do).
Transporting pets safely isn’t just what we do every day. It’s our passion, our mission and something we aim to change for all pet owners.
