When it comes to stressful life events, moving house is right up there. Add a pet or two (or ten) and that stress level is amplified.
There are some simple steps you can take to reduce the stress for both you and your pets ahead of the big day.
Our top tips for moving with pets
- Pack up and clear out one room that can act as a haven for your pets
Even if you are not using a removal company, there is a lot of upheaval as boxes are packed up. Try to clear one room first and give your pets a day or two in there before moving day. When the big day comes make sure the windows and doors are shut and a notice in on the door to advise anyone helping to NOT open the door.
- Keep to your routine as much as possible
Pets love routine. Set timers so you do not miss walkies or feed time.
- Consider a kennel or cattery
If you know that the packing and moving process is going to be stressful, consider putting your pet into a boarding facility. It gives the pet a break and you will not have to worry about your furry making a run for it.
Services through the removal company
Personally, I’ve always paid the extra to have the removal company pack for me too. It saves a huge amount of time reduces stress and everything is insured. They come in and pack up the entire house leaving me to focus on the precious cargo that I want to take with me in the car.
The one service they do not offer is safely and comfortably bringing your pet to their new home.

I have my own car though
You may have your own car but there could be a number of factors that mean it may not be the right option for you or your pet.
- There may not be enough space for pets, especially if you have children.
- Maybe you don’t have the correct travel equipment and restraints to ensure all passengers are safe
- Small car, big dog? No problem, we have plenty of space for even the biggest of dogs.
- You may want to travel with your pet in comfort and let somebody else take the strain of the driving. After all, you have been busy packing up your home.
Whether you want to travel with your pet or you want us to take the pet for you, you can be assured your pet will be cared for with minimal stress.
