Travelling with pets at Christmas

Travelling with pets at Christmas

As the song goes, ‘Tis the season to be jolly…but not too jolly though if you’re travelling with pets this Christmas and driving the dog about to all his festive gatherings.

It’s that time of year when we are visiting family more, gathering round the tree, drinking eggnog and singing Christmas carols.

Ok, so maybe you’re not singing Christmas carols, but the Christmas season does mean visiting family. If you’re going to be there a while hearing all about Uncle Bob’s latest ear infection; you’ll need to take the dog!

It’s busy on the roads and, sadly, statistics show you are 4 times more likely to crash over the Christmas period than any other time of the year!

AND according to the National Safety Council, on average 343 people die in road traffic accidents across the 3-day Christmas period, that being Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. This increases to 373 across the 3-day New Year period.

Increased traffic and alcohol are to blame for a lot of the increased risk of being in an accident, but stress can also play a part. Rushing around with places to be, that’s why you want to take little Ralfie with you rather than leave him at home crossing his legs or having to rush back home.

Don’t rush! Take him with you, remember even Ralfie needs to be safe in the car though.

Travelling with dogs if you are just popping round the corner doesn’t need too much planning, a lead and poo bag and you’re pretty much set.

But don’t forget you will need to use crash tested equipment to make sure Ralfie is safe and secure, just in case the untinkable happens.

Crash tested equipment is what it sounds like, it’s been crash tested to make sure it will hold out in the event of an accident. Crash testing for pet transport equipment is the same as it is for children’s car seats.

Whether it’s a dog guard, dog crate or seat harness; crash tested equipment is the way to go.
