Following on from my last blog where I gave some top tips on moving house with pets, I wanted to share a little insight into a rarer, but very fabulous, job that we undertook recently.
Let’s just say… Cornwall, overnight accommodation and a trip to the beach, all courtesy of a customer!
OK, so I will elaborate a bit more.
Long-distance pet transport service
Did I really get paid to go to the beach? Absolutely!
Ok so I had to do some work, it wasn’t just a paid vacation.
Believe it or not, long-distance work and house moves often go hand in hand in our business.
We had a query from a customer who was moving from the Midlands region down to Cornwall and wanted someone who could safely and comfortably transport her 5 cats.
That’s a long drive. Too far to do there and back safely and responsibly in a day. When we work out quotes for people we always factor in the welfare of the animals and our drivers. If the travel time allows, we will always do this in a day but for some, like Midlands to Cornwall, it requires an overnight stay.
The logistics are always planned in advance and the pet remains the priority. We ensure the pets are safely where they need to be before we make our way to the hotel.
For this trip, it was a very early start and there was quite a bit to consider as we had 5 cats join us on the journey.
Do the cats all get along?
Will they all be travelling in individual carriers?
Do we need to provide any carriers?
Are any of them anxious?
Are any likely to have a little accident?
Are any of them normally car sick?
Do they all get along and will be happy to travel next to each other?
Armed with all this information, my colleague and I pack up the car with everything we needed – water, bowls, extra bedding in case of sickness, and the means to clean up any sick.

We will often work in pairs when we have a long-distance job or multiple pets as this helps keep everyone safe and well looked after. On this occasion, a cat did escape its fabric carrier by careful manipulation of the zip!
We secured the cat and, with cable ties that are part of our standard kit, we tied the two zips together to prevent another break for freedom and were back on our way.
Once the cats were happily reunited with their owners it was time to check into the hotel and hit the beach.
Luckily it was a beautiful hot day, and we got to enjoy the late afternoon sun on the picturesque beach in Cornwall.
The dream job does exist

As the evening draws in, it’s time to head back to the hotel for a well-earned drink, dinner and a good nights sleep.
But not only did we get a beautiful finish to the day, but we also had a client that was thrilled with the service we provided. Happy cats, happy client and happy team!
This is the life.
I really do have the best job in the world
